That is it from this game! But the action does not stop here as we now move to Abu Dhabi where Sri Lanka will face West Indies. That game will begin at 6 pm local (2 pm GMT). We hope to see you there! Cheers.
Aaron Finch, the skipper of Australia, says that it was a clinical performance and credits the bowlers for the way they started things off. Adds that the coaches did have a conversation about NRR before the game but the players concentrated on the game. Informs that they were aware at the halfway mark of what they needed to do to go over South Africa in terms of NRR. Says that the break after the game against England was a good one and it is good to be back to winning ways.
The Bangladesh skipper, Mahmudullah, says it is difficult to comment after such performances. Mentions that they have a lot of things to work on especially the batting. They will have a chat back home about the same. Adds that it is the Powerplay that is crucial in T20 matches but they did not make the most of it in their campaign. Goes on to say that in the Super 12 they got close against Sri Lanka and West Indies, while in the remaining games they were outplayed by the oppositions. Ends by saying, he just wants the fans to back them until the next time.
Adam Zampa is the Player of the Match. He says it been a while he has been playing cricket for Australia and the five-wicket haul has always eluded him, but he is glad to achieve it finally. Also, says Wade has been really good during the whole tournament and has helped him a lot with wickets. Adds he is upset about missing out on the Hat Trick but is very happy about the win above anything.
... Stay tuned for the presentation ...
Earlier in the day, Australia bundled out Bangladesh for just 73, courtesy of some exceptional bowling performance and they chased it down with utmost ease to stay in the semi-final race. They now move above South Africa in the points table and it was just the kind of game Aaron Finch and his men were hoping for going ahead in this competition.
Well, Australia made a mockery of this chase and it was just a walk in the park for Aussie batters in the end. Aaron Finch and David Warner came out all guns blazing and they were in a hurry to finish off the game quickly in order to better their Net Run Rate. They got off to a flier and both of them fell when they were only few runs behind the target. Mitchell Marsh came in at number 3 and he smashed it to all parts of the ground. In the end, Australia won the game by 8 wickets, and most importantly with 82 balls to spare.
Bangladesh's bowlers had only 73 runs to play with and the intent with which the Aussie openers came in to bat made things even more difficult for them. Mustafizur Rahman was taken to the cleaners and it was only Taskin Ahmed who troubled the Aussie openers a bit. He did get rid of Aaron Finch but the damage had already been done. Shoriful Islam came in late to bowl and sent back Warner.
This has been an extremely dominant performance from Australia and they are back to winning ways after suffering a thumping defeat against England. To add to this, Australia also go above South Africa in the points table, courtesy of better NRR and they will be extremely pleased with this result. Bangladesh, however, will take their flight back home as they stay winless at the end of their Super 12 stage.
