That's all we have from this humdinger of a game and it is India Women who have managed to level the five-match series. Both teams will be eager to win the next game and claim the advantage as the losing team will have to win the last two fixtures to seal a series win. The next game will be played at the Brabourne Stadium on Wednesday 14th of December and the match will begin at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT). As you know, do join us early for the build-up. Cheers!
Harmanpreet Kaur the skipper of India Women says that they want to keep backing themselves and they only managed to score 170-odd runs in the last game. Claims that with some players playing with better strike rates, they could get to 200 as well. Explains that she wants the team to bat without pressure and push themselves. Admits that Richa Ghosh has been outstanding for them and that she has always backed her even when she was struggling. Adds that she is coming up with the goods and it is due to the faith shown by the management. Informs that they have been working on their fielding and there is still a lot of work to be done. Ends by saying that the bowling was much better and there wasn’t much for the bowlers in the pitch.
Alyssa Healy says that they missed their lengths while bowling and that proved to be the difference. Adds that it was a great game of cricket and playing in front of a crowd of around 45000 was a nice feeling. Mentions that they hung in there till the end and credits the India Women for keeping their nerves and getting over the line. Claims that the India Women's batters were all over the run chase and they did well to push the game to the Super Over.
Smriti Mandhana has been awarded the Player of the Match for her 79 runs in 49 balls in regular play and 13 runs in 3 balls of the Super Over. She says that she enjoys chasing like most members of the team but they need to be able to bat well in the first inning and set a good score as well. Claims that it was a really good wicket and it could be seen when Australia Women were batting. Adds that it is good to have a wicket like this as they will be able to score close to 200 and entertain the crowd in the process.
Time for the presentation...
The Super Over began with India Women setting the tone as Richa Ghosh and Smriti Mandhana helped the team accumulate 20 runs in 6 balls off the bowling of Heather Graham. Renuka Singh bowled well enough to restrict the powerful trio of Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner, and Tahlia McGrath to clinch a memorable win for the hosts. Australia Women went into the innings break in a commanding position as Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath scored half-centuries with their partnership continuing to flourish. India Women have not been able to dismiss the pair yet in the two games they have played and that should worry them slightly. Despite their failure with the ball, India Women go into the third game with ample confidence and with renewed hope after this win.
Australia Women did not do too well with the ball to begin proceedings and provided far too many loose deliveries allowing their opponents to score freely. The introduction of Alana King got them the breakthrough and with Heather Graham taking a wicket in the very next over, it looked like they would wrench back control of the game. They could not take advantage of the double strike and allowed the game to go deep. They did take a flurry of wickets towards the end as their opponents looked to accelerate but once again their death bowling proved to be a worry. Heather Graham was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets and conceding just 22 runs but in the end, on a difficult pitch for the bowlers, they would have taken a tied game.
India Women got off to an outstanding start scoring 55 runs in the Powerplay en route to a 76-run opening partnership between Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. The former was dismissed after she scored a quickfire 34 and Jemimah Rodrigues' poor run continued as she was dismissed soon after. Harmanpreet Kaur joined Smriti Mandhana to put on a 61-run partnership in just 37 balls with the latter being the main aggressor in their stand. The skipper could not make the most of her start and left her team with an uphill task to overcome the target. Smriti Mandhana put up a massive fight and scored a lovely half-century before being dismissed on 79 of just 49 deliveries. It was Richa Ghosh's cameo towards the end and a handy knock from Devika Vaidya that got India Women level on scores with their opponents.
What an endorsement for cricket this game has been! The packed crowd has been truly entertained and they are going wild in celebration! India Women have registered an outstanding win having clinched the Super Over and have condemned Australia Women to their first loss in T20Is in 2022. This has been a complete team performance and even though Australia Women put up a commanding batting display, they find themselves on the wrong side of the result. The series is now leveled 1-1 and if this game is an indication of how the next few games will unfold, we are in for some high-level excitement.
