Man of the Match
Tom Curran
Commentry
So that is it from this game! However, there is another game which will begin shortly. It is a clash between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder. You can catch all the action by switching tabs, till then take care and goodbye!
Tom Curran has been given the MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD for his brilliant overall performance. A four-fer with the ball and important runs with the bat which helped him take his side over the line.
When the Sixer's restricted the Strikers to 135, i am pretty sure many of you'll would have thought this would be chased down easily. However, they lost their openers quickly. Vince and Silk then steadied the ship before the latter fell. Another stand then was formed between Vince and Silk but then the Rashid Khan turned things around, three wickets in three balls, yes, a hat-trick completely turned the tide in the favor of the hosts. However, Tom Curran, who has been the hero for Sixers many a times this season brought it down to 12 off 13. There though was another twist when Conway cleaned up Curran and then the equation for the Sixers was 12 in 12 with two wickets in hand. Then though walked out the man of the day, Josh Hazlewood, three fours is what he struck to take his team over the line in this nail-biting match.
Phew! A much-needed break here! What a game that was. It kept swinging from one side to the other and in the end, with all due respect, an unlikely source, Josh Hazlewood, strikes three boundaries on the first three balls he plays to take his side over the line. Also, let me remind you, it is his birthday, he surely could not have asked for anything better right!
18.4
4
FOUR! What timing and that is good enough to finish the game. Brilliant hands from Hazlewood. A very full ball outside off, Hazlewood leans into the drive and creams it through covers. The deep point fielder tries to cut it off but he cannot get there. The birthday boy is all smiles as he shakes hands with his partner and then the opposition players.
18.3
4
FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries! This is off the edge but Sydney won't care one bit. It is full and just outside off, Hazlewood looks to jam it out but gets an outside edge which races to the third man fence.
18.2
4
FOUR! That is some shot by Hazlewood! WOW! Probably the one which seals the deal for the visitors! Josh backs away and Siddle bags it short and on off, Hazlewood just opens the face of the bat and hits it over point and bags a boundary.
18.1
1
Full and on off, Bird hits it through covers and takes one. Singles are all they need.
Birthday boy, Josh Hazlewood, is the next man in. Peter Siddle is back on too. 3-0-12-1 from him so far.

Huge appeal for LBW but there were two noise probably. A fuller length ball on off and middle, Bird looks to flick but misses to get hit on the pads. OUT! TIMBER! The crowd is on its feet, Rashid is on his celebratory run, no catching him at the moment as whole of his team is running behind him and rightly so. They now know they have a real chance of winning the game and it is that man, it is Rashid Khan who has brought them back into the game single-handedly. A HAT-TRICK! Take a bow young man. The perfect delivery to bowl. He tosses it up and lands it on off, it is the googly, it turns back in. Silk does not pick it. He looks to push at it but leaves a gap between bat and pad. The ball sneaks through and hits the stumps behind. Still five balls left in his spell. What more can he do?

We are back for the run chase. The two openers for Sixers, Josh Philippe and Justin Avendano, walk out to the middle. Peter Siddle with the ball first up.
The target is not a big one and the Sixers would fancy themselves to chase this down! The Strikers on the other hand, need their star, Rashid Khan to weave some magic. Can he do so or will the visitors chase another score down? Stay tuned to find out.
The Sixers were impressive throughout! Each bowler had a wicket at least to his name. Curran though was the pick as he ended with a four-fer. Hazlewood was once again excellent. Pope's double wicket over was the one which changed the momentum and Dwarshuis and Bird also had a decent day at the office. Overall a complete bowling performance.
The problem for the Strikers were they lost wickets at regular intervals. Two of their batters, Weatherald and Carey got off to starts but none could covert it into something substantial. Also, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals which kept pushing them on the back foot. Their lower-order normally does add the finishing touches but that was also missing today.
End of a top class performance with the ball by the Sixers! They have dragged things back brilliantly! At 110 for 3 in 14 overs, you would have felt the Strikers would end up getting something close to the 170-run mark but that was not the case. They completely lost their way after that and lost 7 for 25 giving the visitors the advantage at the break.

OUT! TAKEN! That is a big, big wicket at this stage! Carey was probably the man who the Strikers would have pinned their hopes on to get them over 150, he departs. He comes down a little, it is a very full ball on middle. Carey creams it uppishly to the right of the mid off fielder who dives and Curran takes a good catch diving to his right.

OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Another low score for Salt but this is a lovely delivery from Bird. He once again gives the Sixers the early breakthrough they would have wanted. It is a length delivery, it lands on off and just about straightens. Salt looks to defend but does so inside the line. The ball kisses the outside edge and goes into the hands of the keeper. They go upstairs to check for the no ball but it is fine. A wicket to end the second, a successful one for the visitors. The common saying is Never run on a misfield. However, in this case, it can be changed to never run on an overthrow too. Philip will have to take it with a pinch of salt. Because if he had not run the previous overthrow, he would have not been out because he would not have been on strike!
