Aaron Finch wants this Australian cricketer to become ODI captain

Last week, Australia’s limited-over captain Aaron Finch gave up his leading and playing services in the One-Day Internationals, choosing to play and take command in T20Is. Cricket Australia (CA) now looks for Finch’s best replacement as the ODI captain as multiple contenders can be taken under consideration.

According to Finch’s opinion, CA should opt for David Warner for the post saying the players love to play under his leadership. Notably, Warner suffered a lifetime captaincy ban after the infamous Sandpaper Gate scandal in 2018 that included his mate Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft. While skipper Smith had to serve a 24-month captaincy ban, Warner was freed from any captaincy role forever.

Since the terrific opener has been drafted by Sydney Thunder on his return to Big Bash League after a decade, he is in conversation with the board to reconsider the lifetime captaincy ban. He believes after having previous leadership experience and being captain of IPL teams multiple times, he is once again into the role.

Finch believes whatever happened in 2018 has been rested since Smith captained once in a Test match recently in Pat Cummins’ absence. While talking to the media, the former ODI skipper added,

“I think CA (Cricket Australia) are revisiting what that looks like. He’s (David Warner) someone I’ve played under a few times for Australia when he’s had the opportunity to captain, and he’s been fantastic. He’s an unbelievable tactical captain and someone who, at the time, the guys loved playing under,”

Since Warner is said to be in conversation with the board to discuss lifting his lifetime captaincy ban, Finch is not yet 100% sure what CA’s decision would be in regard.

“I’m not 100 percent sure of what CA’s position is on it. But would I like to see it overturned? (Yes) … he’s someone who, you do your time and he’s well and truly done that I think,”
